Switching From Canon To Sony

In the summer of 2018, I finally saved enough to make the switch to Sony. I was using a Canon 80D, but I am currently shooting with the Song A7III. I main reason I changed was because I need a full frame camera, Sony could offer me that and so much more. I can shoot in down sampled 5K with built in slow motion which is perfect for my video work. The main issue I had with the change was that I could not use my Canon glass on my new camera, however the Sigma mc11 adapter can help me get around that issue.

Stepping from a crop sensor to a full frame camera has made me realise how import it is to have good equipment when wanting to create sharp images. With 10 fps in RAW file, I can easily capture moments that happen suddenly when shooting, especially in small venues. Another key feature that made me switch was the low ISO range; on the box and any reviews online all state the lowest ISO is 100, which is standard in any and all dslr’s. However with the extensive research I did, I found that the Sony A7III can go down to 50 ISO. I will always prioritise low iso over high aperture, so being able to shoot with such low grain is perfect.

I do not have much experience shooting video, however the few I made with my Canon 80D were very successful online. The A7III offers top grade video specifications for a very reasonable price, with built in lens correction, I don’t have to spend more money on a specific lens to have built in stabilisation. Now the absolute top reason this camera appealed to me, was the built in 5K. It is currently down sampled to 4K, but in the future when 4K screens become common, an update will come out to have all video be rendered in 5k. I could not achieve  the footage bed have with this camera with my Canon, all the features I have listed above work beautiful together, and it really just a testament to prove the most expensive equipment is not always the best.
