Shooting Lower Than Atlantis @ SUB89

On the 4th of May, I was lucky enough to receive a photo pass for Lower Than Atlantis' headline tour date in my home town. This is easily one of the active shoots I have been a part of, with the photo pit only being a foot in depth. It was a massive contrast to my last gig at Ally Pally. The first band i shot were Boston Manor, the five piece from Black Pool have been on tour non-stop for the last 5 months, and when I spoke to Drummer Jordan Pugh, he said he couldn’t wait to be back home, yet didn’t want tour to end. Jordan also asked me to film a drum cam for him for the last two songs of their set (Lead Feet and Laika). Boston Manor have been a band I always priorities at festivals because their shows are always getting better the more they play.

Second up were the headliners Lower Than Atlantis. I have only seen them live once before in London, so to them in my home town was insane. As the evening went on, more and more people piled into the room, I am convinced they over sold the gig. I found it difficult to manoeuver around the venue without stepping on someone’s foot. Although I wasn’t allowed back stage, the shots from the back of the crowd just show how packed the venue was. Front man, Mike Duce has really adopted the rock star persona in the last year; while at their London date, he seemed too blown away to really interact with the crowd, yet at this concert he was giving out beers and telling them to down it!

I was very nervous when I first walked into the venue, although I am, however I think the final outcomes from this gig are my best work to date. I do not think Lower Than Atlantis will tour for some time, however I know Boston Manor will, and I cannot wait to meet and shoot them again.
