Top Albums Of 2018

The main objective of this post to convey to idea that these albums will live with me for many years to come. I will first list my thoughts on each album in my top 10 in chronological order. If you don’t really give shit, scroll to the bottom for my top 10 albums.

Don Broco - Technology

Lyrically, this album isn’t really great, more cheesy / cringe than anything. But the entire albums fucking slaps. While I think too many singles were realised, 6 to be exact, “Everybody” was the first single to came out almost 2 years before the album; 554 days before the album. Thats insane. My tops picks from the album would have to “Come Out To LA” and “Pretty”, again I wouldn’t say I relate to these songs, but again, they fucking slap. I do not think this album will high on my top 10 albums, but it got number 1 on UK rock & metal albums so what the fuck do I know.

Casey - Where I Go When I Am Sleeping

10/10. Not doubt about it. I do not think Casey have ever put a song I am not keen on, even after 3 years, “Fade” is still my favourite EP. Anyway, spoiler alert, this album will be number one, oh well. Even though the album had some instrumental songs, they all still suit the albums theme and topics discussed. I could talk about this album forever, and I will, this collection of songs mean so much to me. I’ve told people that if they ever want to know me better, they should listen to this album in full, I hope people do.

State Champs - Living Proof

I feel like this album defined my summer. Driving around on the weekends listening to this album with my friends singing along are some of my favourite memories of this year. My favourite from the track list would have be “Criminal” and “Side Lines” - the opening and closing tracks to this album. Like I said, it is summertime album, and since I saw them last, I haven’t been listening to them that much. Either way. What a album. Shits tight.

Between You And Me - Everything Is Temporary

Another kick ass band from Australia, I swear they have the best music scene in the world. Anyway, I’m not going to make this out as the best pop-punk albums of the year, because it is not. To be fair, its not even that high up the list. BUT, the first single “Dakota” fucking bangs hard. Thats pretty much the only reason its on this list. Go listen to Dakota. That is all.

Trash fucking Boat - Crown fucking Shyness

The hardest hitting, deepest riff, loudest vocal album I’ve ever heard. Crown shyness describes the lead singers struggle with his own demons, backed with catchy melodies and the best bass / snare patterns since old neck deep. I’ve only seen Trash Boat once, at a release show for this album, and let me tell you, they fuck shit up.

Trophy Eyes - The American Dream

An Australian band, singing about the American Dream , recorded in Singapore in England. Everyone hated this album, I did at first too. “Mend, Move On” and “Chemical Miracle” are top their albums in my books, this however is not. Its lacked emotion, the raw sound they had and the heavy lyrics that made my chest hurt. But everyone grows, the band did, as did I, and I feel this album came at a time that made me appreciate it. If they gave us another “Chemical Miracle” I would have been bored, we’ve had that, we’ve got the T-Shirt. This album is about moving forward and growing up. Proving you’re (I’m) not that same sad kid who hates themselves. I dig it.

Boston Manor - Welcome To The neighbourhood

I feel both Boston Manor and Trophy Eyes went down the same route this year. They are trying something new, and while its not what I expected, I (kinda) liked it. I am still not sure if I like it, I’ve listened to it a lot, hell I own two copies on vinyl. But something doesn’t sit well with this album, “Be Nothing” is a masterpiece, but this? I don’t know. Anyway, the highly anticipated album hit hard and I enjoy listening to it. Its good. I will move on.

The Story So Far - Proper Dose

I want to angry finger point, I want to scream lyrics about hating a girl. But this band grew up, so have I. In a similar case to Trophy Eyes, things have changed, I no longer hate that girl, neither does Parker, and thats good. But something inside me stills gets excited when I hear “The Glass” from their (best) album “What You Don’t See”, but I like this new sound, its calm and relaxing. They will still have to play those old songs live, and I can’t wait till I hear them again. Proper Dose is an album that reminds me a lot of this year, it hasn’t been out for long, but it really means something to me.

Beartooth - Disease

Every song sounds the same, but then again so does every Beartooth song. The singles (like every other album ever) were the best, “Disease” and “Bad Listener” are my absolute favourites. I don’t feel as much emotion and self hatred in this compared to their older albums, but the metaphors are still there. I cant wait to see them support Architects next year. Bring on the pits.

Architects - Holy Hell

I will put it out there, this album does not beat “All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us’, Tom definitely brought something to this band that has not been replaced, it cant be. Some lyrics are simple and just not what I would ever expect from an architects song. I also don’t like the album name, “Death Is Not Defeat” (the opening song name) would have been such a better fit. In spite of all of this, its Architects. Of course I am going to fucking like it, its heavy, its emotional, Dan’s drum groves are the best he has ever written. Its a solid album and the band have come so far since Tom’s death.
