During our workshop together, we spent the first few hours preparing a section of our workspace to black out all the windows. We used the white walls (that we usually use for exhibitions) to single out a space to create our camera. We used cardboard, black card and duct tape to collage around corners and difficult places to board up. From here, we cut two circle holes in the cardboard that backed onto the windows, here we could place two large camera lens to control how much light we could let in. Using a whiteboard, we pinned A3 size photographic paper to act as out sensor, from this our “RAW” files were A3, meaning we could re print these much larger than we can we normal photograph and it would still retain all its information.

With the intense lock down, I can only go out and shoot local to me house, because of this I am struggling to keep motivated while documenting the same places over and over. I found myself sitting at home and playing video games to pass the time and to keep distracted from the world. The type os games I normally play are open world, first person sand box; I can go wherever I want to explore a visual world, something I can’t do at the moment. This allows to me frame shots exactly how I want, some even allow me to control the time of day, expressions and aperture. However the only variable in all games are the NPC’s (non-player characters), how they dress, where they stand and if they interact with me is all random. All controlled by the game.

This blog post will be discussing at lengths what field of creative work I will go into after I graduate. The main aspect of all of this is how difficult it will be to produce new and unique work if lockdown continues for the next few months, and challenging it could be to actually get a job in a curative field. Nevertheless, I will be discussing each case study in detail with a few things set in stone.

For my current project, I travelled into virtual worlds and used built photo modes to document open world games. I used NVidea software to capture high resolution screenshots of my first person view in games such as Grand Theft Auto 5, The Far Cry Series and Star Wars BattleFront. No two games are the same, each offer different aspects that can help me capture what it's like to be a pawn in such a large open world. Virtual Reality Photography was completely new to me at the start of this project, but I have been played video games since I can remember. With my knowledge of the games and my years of Photography practice, I found it easy to combine the two to create work that tells a narrative of a new world. Within my work, I made smaller narrative that are unique to the game, they tell stories from the in game players perspective, like they are a real person with thoughts and emotions.
