Landeding an internship at “Surface” which asked her to organise her first exhibition, Mcquid was pointed towards visual artist and magazines, moved to London with hopes to be an editor. She had a freelance experience with publication at “Tank” but left fashion and the magazine career and focused on photography part as she enjoyed this part the most.

It is important I have a up to date, professional CV to send to companies to show them my best work. This CV is separate to my normal CV, I would not give this in at the local shop for to ask for weekend work, this Curriculum Vitae is for jobs that would require my photography / videography skills. at the moment I send emails to managers, small business owners and bands to ask for any work they have available, and while I will keep doing this after I graduate, I would eventually be asking for grants and entering competitions. This CV will pose as a way for people to see my professional work and achievements.

Being a student, I don’t have any type of tax return, however after I graduate I will have to contact the HMRC to declare myself self employed. This is because I do not work for someone else, I will not have a secure 9 - 5 job, the people I shoot for will pay me a one off payment, and this amount up over the year and I will have to declare how much I earn to know how much to pay back to the Government. For me, this is quite concussing, so I will a table to work out all of the numbers.

I think it is safe to say everyone knows someone who has fought this terrible illness, and it is no lie to say I could not think of any worse new to hear first-hand. I have already done a blog post for my top albums of the year, however I want to dive in further and talk about songs that really hit home for me.
l will start this list with “Making Weight” from Casey’s album “Where I Go When I Am Sleeping”. Tom’s voice and the melodic guitar match beautifully together, with Weaver describing his battles with physical and mental pains.
PC 2 - Week 2 - Website design
Since first year, I had my first website using WIX, it was free and very easy to use. However since entering second year, I have had a tutorial on how to appear more professional online to gain more clients. The first step in this process is to buy a domain, this is cheap and easy, I brought www.baileykidd.co.uk for just 99p for one year. The hard part was linking this to an actual website, we were given free choice between many web design platforms but I went for Square Space as I have seen them advertised everywhere. SS is a lot harder to use than WIX, but I enjoy a challenge and learning a new software.

In the summer of 2018, I finally saved enough to make the switch to Sony. I was using a Canon 80D, but I am currently shooting with the Song A7III. I main reason I changed was because I need a full frame camera, Sony could offer me that and so much more. I can shoot in down sampled 5K with built in slow motion which is perfect for my video work. The main issue I had with the change was that I could not use my Canon glass on my new camera, however the Sigma mc11 adapter can help me get around that issue.

In the summer of 2018, I headed out with Bloxx for their show on the Festival Republic stage on Saturday the 25th of August at 12:50. I have never shot a festival before, I thought it would be similar to shooting Ally Pally, but I was very wrong. For this show, I was running my Sony A7III with 55mm F1.8, my Canon 80D with 10mm-18mm F3.5, and for the occasional photo, I had my Chinon CE-4s with a 50mm F1.8 and a 400mm F6. I also took my sigma MC-11 adaptor and my 8mm fisheye, but never took it out of my bag. I didn’t come across a event where the fisheye would work better than a 10mm on my Canon.

Medium Format Workshop with Jon Tonks
On Tuesday 22nd of May, I was lucky enough to attend a workshop presented by Jon Tonks, a British photographer living in Bath UK. Tonks works mainly in medium format cameras, he said that they are much more interesting to use that a standard 35mm or a DSLR, and that it makes him really think about what he is shooting. Tonks talked to us about how he originally studied Product Design (another reason why he liked the square format of the cameras) but moved to freelance work for a local newspaper. He later went back and got a documentary photography degree in London and went forward to work for the British Empire and British Humour. Tonks brought in 6 different media for at cameras for us to use, however his favourite to use om shoots is the Hasslebad.

This blog post will be purely about my experiences of my first year studying photography at Bath Spa University. I feel this is not space where I could talk about moving to Bath or the whole University agenda. Going to the two opens days, I learnt that the first unit I would be set was 35mm, I was really excited to do this project as I haven’t got much experience within that medium. the project itself was very successful, however (much like in all the other art I create) I am never truly happy once I reflect back on it.

Unit four was by far my personal favourite work of mine. I have done so much landscape during the day, so I wanted to challenge myself and complete the whole project at night. My main inspiration came from the second album “Where I Go When I Am Sleeping” by Casey. Their music means a lot to me and I wanted to produce something that reminded me of them, I am proud to say I have. The two main artists I looked at were Paul Gaffney and Walker Evens, Gaffney went on walks aimlessly, I feel my book follows a similar pattern to this. Walker Evans was a landscape photographer in the America during the 1930’s, his work has been very influence to other photogenes such as Gaffney. I mainly looked the way he took photos which was from of building with bold text in them and from a perfect 90 degree angle.
I am also really proud of the book I created for this unit named “This Is Where I Go When I Am Sleeping And These Are The Chemicals That Led Me Here”
Shooting at night
For my unit four, I shot a lot my images at night. I had shot all my previous landscape during the day, so nigh time photography gave me challenged I had not face before. I knew I had to use a tri-pod, however after the first shoot, I brought a trigger to be able to take longer photos as my camera limited me to 30 seconds. Some of my exposures were up to 10 minutes, so I had to set my camera up to not take in a lot of light, otherwise sources like lampposts would be over blown. Although I didn’t carry on long exposures in my university work, I did with my personal photography, going to busy places to capture the red and white light traveling through the landscape.
I had experimented with long exposures a while ago, but never for school. I found all the images looked very similar, which was the main reason I moved away from in my unit four work. Once you get that perfect shot with cars going both ways, there’s not really anywhere else to go there. I constantly look at my work and think to myself “how can I make this better” and when the answer is a simple thing such as a lower angle, I lose connection with my own work.
Shooting Lower Than Atlantis @ SUB89
On the 4th of May, I was lucky enough to receive a photo pass for Lower Than Atlantis' headline tour date in my home town. This is easily one of the active shoots I have been a part of, with the photo pit only being a foot in depth. It was a massive contrast to my last gig at Ally Pally. The first band i shot were Boston Manor, the five piece from Black Pool have been on tour non-stop for the last 5 months, and when I spoke to Drummer Jordan Pugh, he said he couldn’t wait to be back home, yet didn’t want tour to end. Jordan also asked me to film a drum cam for him for the last two songs of their set (Lead Feet and Laika). Boston Manor have been a band I always priorities at festivals because their shows are always getting better the more they play.
